WhatsApp re-encodes everything to about 3000 kbps whatever you send, but it keeps your frame rate. A 60fps clip gets half the data per frame, and WhatsApp shrinks it to 464×832 as well. Handing it a clean 720p file at 30fps is what buys back the detail.

Then, in WhatsApp
- Get the saved file onto your phone, by AirDrop or iCloud.
- Open Status and add it straight from Photos.
- Do not send it to a chat and forward it.
Forwarding is the popular advice and it is wrong. A forwarded clip lands on status at 480×848, against 720×1280 posted directly. Forwarding re-encodes a file WhatsApp already compressed once, so you pay twice.
